Managing Director (m/f) StuttgartOur Client is an independent, employee-owned global network of complementary, wholly-owned agencies and part of the first global agency network dedicated to experiential marketing.
Our client was founded in 1914 in Detroit as a flag and sail-maker. With the rise of the automotive trade, the company transitioned to working with these innovative manufacturers, designing and creating branded environments at festivals and fairs. They grew into a full-scale events company with a heavy emphasis on the automobile industry. In the 1990s the business broadened its strategic approach and focus on international expansion, this was accelerated by winning all of IBMs global event work. There are now over 40 offices worldwide.
***** The Stuttgart office is one of two main hubs in Europe, the other being London. Our client has a smaller presence in Paris, Brussels and Milan. It also has formal strategic partnerships in place with companies in the Nordics, Dubai and Italy. In 2008, as our client became established as a fully-fledged integrated engagement marketing company, it established a holding company. Their capabilities include branded environments, entertainment marketing, online experience, media and content development, and event production and management. Today our client in Germany is a successful agency with a €10M turnover and clients including IBM, BMW, Infinity, Cisco, Gartner Consulting and Samsung. The office (just outside) Stuttgart comprises approximately 100 full time staff across five departments: event services, production, creative, account management and strategy. The business has an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) providing employees with an ownership interest. At a global level our client is led by the two sons of the founder.
The opportunity The senior management is looking for someone to lead and grow our clients business in Stuttgart. The company is committed to the proposition that an experience is more impactful than an exposure, building a more personal, much deeper, more genuine connection with consumers. They are increasingly seeing a shift in marketing budgets, with increased spend on experiential as a strategic driver for brands.
There is real ambition to build on our clients strong legacy and experience in logistics and operations, with a more strategic, creative and digital approach. Our client needs a dynamic and progressive leader to maximize the businesss potential by setting the direction for the clients growth and driving new strategic marketing initiatives, making our client known as the agency that creatively solves marketing problems through engagement solutions.
The Managing Director (m/f) should deepen and strengthen relationships with existing clients, commanding a greater share of their marketing spend, and also open up significant opportunities with new clients and broaden the client base. The MD will also be responsible for effecting change internally and spearheading a cultural shift across the German business. This will include talent acquisition and creating a new and inspiring office location.
Together, these will combine to drive and improve our clients reputation across the region, so attracting new business.
The role
- Reports to the CEO EMEA and sits on the EMEA Management team
- Be a figurehead for the brand in Germany, driving the agencys profile and reputation across the region
- Work with the leadership team to drive the vision for the team in Germany and galvanize and energize the agency as a whole, with the clear remit to raise the bar across the agencys strategic and creative product
- Work closely on existing client portfolio, both ensuring excellence of client service across the business as well as growing client relationships
- Work closely with senior management to develop and execute a growth and future orientated new business strategy, with a clear remit to set the foundation for regional expansion (for e.g. in the service of specific clients)
- Create the conditions for the development of industry-leading creative and innovative ideas that make a difference to clients business
- Attract and retain the best talent and ensure that people are fully motivated to deliver against the business agenda. Develop a plan that drives accountability for senior client leaders across the business; recognize and reward thought leadership/strategic partnership that drives tangible growth
- An inspirational and dynamic leader who can lead with authority, drive change and also know how to enthuse and get the best out of a diverse team
- Future-facing, visionary and progressive: has affinity with, and passion for, new digital technologies and can provide thought leadership for clients and agency alike
- Experience and real understanding of experiential and engagement marketing: must be hands-on and able to hit the ground running
- Entrepreneurial and driven, with experience of successfully growing business and developing excellent client relationships at a senior level
- An understanding of global client needs, and working and collaborating internationally in a network agency, with a commitment to the success of the broader group
- A passion for inspiring creativity
